"Randy", age 19, lost his arm below the elbow two years ago as a result
of an automobile accident. In 1998, Randy received a prosthesis with a
hook type terminal device from Central O&P. In October 2000, he was fit
with a myoelectric limb with an electronic greifer.
Randy works at an auto garage where his responsibilities include tire
changes. He works often and has not been able to practice with the limb
as much as he would like but he is confident in his ability to complete
his multiple tasks at work. He feels the myoelectric arm is much more
versatile than his first prosthesis. He is pleased with its function
and fit. Randy feels that in time, the myoelectric limb will be almost
as good as having a sound limb.
